Eczema on the scalp
You can recognize eczema on the scalp by itchy, scaly, red spots on the skin. It can be caused by an allergic reaction or yeast or sebum produced by the body.
When the skin fat (sebum) on the scalp changes, there is a chance that yeast cells will grow faster. If a lot of yeast cells are present, they can cause inflammation on the skin.
Symptoms
- Red spots on light skin, light spots on dark skin.
- Yellow or brown flakes
- Itching
- Bumps
- Hair loss due to peeling flakes
The eczema on the scalp is negatively affected by cold, stress or by regularly wearing a hat or cap.

Eczema with flakes on the head
Seborrheic dermatitis causes flakes to form on the skin. These flakes feel greasy and are colored yellow or brown. When you have fair skin, the skin turns red when it flakes. The skin can lighten with a tinted or dark skin. This form of eczema is popularly referred to as 'dandruff'.
Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp can be found between the eyelashes, next to the nose, in and behind the ears, inside the eyebrows and between the hairs, also called dandruff. This type of eczema can also appear on the chest, on the back and in body folds.
Seborrheic dermatitis is not contagious , but it can be hereditary.
