What is contact allergy?
Contact allergy is when you have an allergic reaction after having had direct contact with something in your environment. The best-known contact allergy conditions are eczema (dermatitis) and hives. When eczema is caused by an allergen, it is called allergic contact dermetitis.
Contact allergy symptoms
The following symptoms can occur in contact allergies:
• Swelling/skin thickening
• Itching
• Red spots (on the skin that has been in contact with the allergen)
• Bumps that can develop as fluid blisters
• Skin flaking
• Formation of fissures
The allergic reaction (contact allergy) depends on your skin, the type of material you come into contact with and how long you are in contact with the material. Not sure if you suffer from a contact allergy? Please contact your GP or dermatologist.
